Past Thoughts

A burden or the teacher we never knew we had?

We all have them, thoughts from the past that is. Some can be thought of as memories while others can be an internal battle of our self-image. Any thought whether past, present, or future can simply be thought of as knowledge. This knowledge can be used in positive ways or negative ways, affecting ourselves or others. Wisdom comes when knowledge is understood and used properly. At the end of the day, everything is a learning experience. Although some experiences may have done more damage than others, we're always left with a choice. A choice of whether or not to learn from it, and not only to learn from it, but to apply it in the future. It's almost like reading a book on a subject and now we know everything about it, right? I do not fully agree with that idea. Nothing can fully be categorized in such a way, that would simply be taking away from its authenticity. It must be lived, hands on experience is the ultimate form of learning.

If we keep doing the same thing over and over again, we're use to that outcome. When we are comfortable with an outcome, why would we change? Comfort can be thought of as stagnation in a sense. The same thing keeps repeating, we know the outcome, and we feel safe, but is there growth or expansion in that? What if we don't want the same outcome but the "thing" keeps happening over and over again? Well, we have the knowledge because we're observing the reoccurrences, but have we learned or applied what we've learned? Maybe we don't want to learn because learning would mean understanding and understanding would mean facing the truth. Some people seek truth while others would rather not be bothered with it, why is that? The truth is not always an easy pill to swallow when the truth is found in our shadow.

Negative thoughts from the past, present, or future can be found here- In the Shadow. They can devour our self-image in a split second when left suppressed and unrecognized. We'd love to blame someone else for the pain, situations, or outcomes we've experienced in life but yet we must take responsibility. Naturally, blame or holding another party accountable for an outcome does make sense. But we chose this, we chose these situations in our waking day or prior to this lifetime. Within a choice comes responsibility. Responsibility is ownership and when you own something you have the power to control it. Since it is ours, which inevitably is "us" we choose how to apply it. Although until we understand, there will be no wisdom found...and the cycle continues.

Shadow work is far from an easy task and shouldn't be expected to ever be qualified as finished. All of these thoughts and triggers are reminders, think of it as homework. Start to pay more attention to these thoughts and seeing how they all correlate, probability will show they all stem from a wound. Same goes for interactions with people, where and why are you triggered? There's a pattern, I promise. Once the common occurrence is found, then we find the wound, and start to heal that aspect. This will become second nature after a while and before you know it, you'll start to see you. There's no reason to change you, there's a reason to understand you. In return, wisdom is found.
