Needing to Know
Seeking Confirmation
Why do we want to know, what does it grant us? On a broader scale, it grants us safety. If this happens I'll feel safe knowing that I am protected or my needs are met. I wonder what this person thinks of me? If only I knew, then I would be able to judge myself on their interpretation. We do not normally think of our everyday actions as being driven by safety in the physical or mental sense. But if you actually dig deep enough inside yourself, you will see how it all connects. Are these driven thoughts or actions actually a logical method for providing true safety or an overbearing ego driven safety?
When I think of needing to know the outcome of something, my mind picks the word "worry". The outcome of any situation will create an emotion in response, whether good or bad. Of course we all want good emotions and good things to come our way, although this life would be boring if everything was perfect. We've all wished for a perfect life once or twice before I'm sure, but without life experiences we'd have nothing to compare it to. We wouldn't know what good feels like if we've never experienced a bad time.
Some may say "I wouldn't worry if I knew the outcome, if I knew it was all going to work out". That is a very valid statement, but without contrast there'd be no experience. Without an experience, there'd be no growth or expansion. Can we change outcomes of situations, sure. But that is control, which there is a place and time for that type of safety. But when the control is driven by an overbearing ego to keep us safe in our little bubble, does that offer a place full of experiences, growth, and expansion? Not quite. Sometimes our little bubble is needed to realign and alchemize, accompanied with great growth. But what I'm talking about is limiting our growth due to fear. Fear of the unknown possibility or outcomes that may create an experience followed with an emotion that we do not want to experience. You really can't blame anyone for not wanting to experience something negative, no one would.
So, we're just supposed to let go of the wheel and go for the ride? That's what they say, if only it was that simple. Whether you're desiring something materialistic like money or on a more emotion level, all we have is right here and now. The past is the past, what is done is done. We can spend all of our time and energy replaying experiences we've done onto others or what they've done onto us. Replaying that isn't going to make it go away or change and it certainly is sucking our energy dry from our right here and now. The past is meant for learning, growing, forgiving others, and most importantly forgiving yourself. But we leave it there in the past once we've healed, which is the first step...heal the wound.
What about the future? Of course we can take some steps to have it unfold as we please. But do we really know what's around the corner at any given time? What is meant for you will never pass you by. There's always time for a detour here and there, while a little bit of time may be thought of as lost. Just because it may have taken a little longer to get to where you were going does not mean any time was lost. If you ever thought back and felt that you've wasted time during an experience, think about it. You may find something quite important took place that has helped you get to where you are now.
Letting go and going with the flow opens doors of new opportunities and abundance that may be overlooked. It is easier said than done, but if you try from time to time, soon you will see the results.
But only if I just knew what was coming next...
